He joined the 42nd battalion of the Royal Fusiliers (which was one of the battalions serving as the Jewish Legion in Palestine). He was enlisted as a reservist on 5 July 1918 and demobilised on 2 April 1919. He signed a form in March 1919 to say that he was not suffering from a disability due to his military service and gave his age at that time as 40. In the documents his address is 63 Digbeth, Birmingham. He is described as a naturalised Russian and both as a "gents outfitter" and a "cap maker in B'ham". His wife is shown as Martha Rose and the six children are named. His age on 5 July 1918 is shown as 38 years and 5 months (and so born about 5 February 1980) but in the form of application for Special Enlistment his date of birth is given as 1 November 1881. | ||
